What players say
Tennis Warehouse's playtest team and long-time owners agree the Hyper Hammer 5.3 OS is very light, very head-forward, and loaded with easy power, which is exactly what beginners and short-swing doubles players want but makes it hard for stronger hitters to keep balls in the court. Talk Tennis posters flag it as one of the stiffer frames Wilson made in this line, and several recommend adding weight to make it more arm-friendly.
Best for
- Beginners and improving 3.0-4.0 players
- Short, compact swings
- Doubles and net play needing extra reach
- Seniors wanting effortless pace
Pros
- Very light and maneuverable, easy to whip through the swing
- Generous 110 sq in head gives a large, forgiving sweet spot
- Open string pattern and 27.5" length produce plenty of spin and reach
- Big, easy power on serves and groundstrokes with minimal effort
Cons
- Rated as one of the stiffer frames in Tennis Warehouse testing, which some players found harsh on the arm
- At mid-range string tension the ball flies, making control difficult for players who generate their own pace
- Light weight and head-heavy balance make it unstable blocking hard-hit volleys
- Not suited to big servers or aggressive flat hitters wanting a controlled frame

this frame has a lot of power...spin isn't an option with this racquet, it's a requirement!

the racquet lacked the stability to comfortably block the shots

HH 5.3 recieved one of the worst ratings in TE because it's so stiff.

The 5.3 is super light. Add like 16g to the head 3-9 and enough in the handle to make it like 5 pts head light. It will be more arm friendly.
