What players say
Early hands-on reviews of the Prince Ripcord 98 XS describe a powerful, spin-friendly 98 that plays more like a Pure Drive 98 or Ezone 98 rival than a control stick. Reviewers like the easy pace, comfortable feel, and how fast it swings, especially on serve, but note the power means you have to add spin or string tighter to keep the ball in.
Best for
- Aggressive, attacking baseliners
- Players who like to take big cuts and end points early
- One-handed backhand players
- Players upgrading from a Pure Drive 98 or Ezone 98
Pros
- High, effortless power described as similar to the Babolat Pure Drive 98
- Produces a heavy, spin-loaded ball that drops and kicks
- Fast through the air, praised especially for serves
- Comfortable, arm-friendly feel with a pleasant sound on contact
- Thinner throat profile suits one-handed backhands
Cons
- Power can outrun control unless the player adds extra spin or strings up in tension
- Not built for a flat, baseline-grinding game
- Very new release, so player feedback is still limited to first impressions

The power level is high, comparable to the Pure Drive 98, so I needed to add extra spin to hit my targets reliably.

This is a racquet for aggressive players who like to take charge of points early and dominate their opponents.

Prince is for real. This racquet is as good as any 98 on the market if you're looking for controllable spin.

Does all things well. Better than the Ripcord 300g. No negatives for me.
