What players say
Liked 5 sources
Reviewers consistently single out the Shift 99 for how easily it generates topspin, thanks to its stiff-but-laterally-flexible frame, and rate it comfortable and maneuverable for its class. The main pushback is a muted, dull feel off-center and an inconsistent launch angle that gives flatter, control-first hitters trouble.
Best for
- Topspin-heavy baseliners
- Semi-western forehand players
- Players outgrowing a stiff control frame
- Aggressive all-court players wanting spin and pace
Pros
- Exceptional, effortless topspin generation praised across reviews
- Maneuverable and fast through the zone despite the low swingweight
- Comfortable for a frame with a 68 RA stiffness rating
- Good blend of power and control for spin-oriented aggressive baseliners
Cons
- Muted, dull feel when contact is off-center
- Launch angle can feel inconsistent for players who hit flatter
- Some testers found 300g/head light balance too light, especially on serves
- Can produce more double faults on second serve when racquet speed drops

Fantastic spin. It's very easy to swing and generate racquet head speed.

It felt maneuverable, and I was able to generate great head speed.

The sensation of graphite snapping in and out of position for extra spin becomes extremely addictive.

The most spin friendly racquet I have ever used.

Above-average comfort for a racquet in its class.
