Babolat RPM Rough 16 String Reel - 660'
Line: RPM Rough
$289.00
RPM Rough is the textured version of RPM Blast, one of the most popular co-polys ever made. Like the standard RPM Blast, this string is a co-polymer monofilament with an octagonal shape and a special cross-linked silicone coating. RPM Rough is perfect for aggressive players who like to attack the ball with long, fast strokes. Our playtesters found it a tad softer and more powerful than the original RPM Blast, resulting in a slightly more penetrating shot. With its grippy surface, you'll find plenty of bite for bringing the ball down with spin. The durability is also quite high, making this a great option for string breakers.

What players say
RPM Rough is the textured, octagonal version of RPM Blast and reviewers agree it generates very high spin with a grippy, bite-y feel on contact. Opinions split on comfort and control: Tennis Warehouse testers found it softer and more arm-friendly than RPM Blast but a bit springy and control-limited once tension drops, while Tennisnerd found it stiff and unforgiving with only modest power. Most agree the string's playability window is short, often cut short well before it breaks.
Best for
- Players chasing extra bite and topspin from a textured poly
- Intermediates transitioning from synthetic gut to co-poly
- Big hitters wanting a slightly softer alternative to RPM Blast
- Players who restring often and don't mind short playability life
Pros
- Very high spin potential from the rough octagonal profile grabbing the ball
- Softer and more arm-friendly than standard RPM Blast in Tennis Warehouse testing
- Decent initial power that helps drive the ball through the court
- Good raw durability against breaking, even if playability fades sooner
Cons
- Playability drops off well before the string breaks, so it often gets cut out early
- Control becomes inconsistent once tension drops and the string feels springy
- Tennisnerd rated it stiff with a jarring, muted feel on off-center hits
- Spin bite fades noticeably after several hours of play as the texture wears down
- Adds little extra power for players looking for more pace on serve
