Grapplesnake Tour Mako Short Fin 17/1.25 String
Line: Tour Mako Short Fin
$13.99
Introducing a special edition of Grapplesnake's flagship round poly, Tour Mako. This one is called Tour Mako Short Fin and unlike the original, it features a six-sided profile to help with bite and spin. Under the hood, this co-poly features the same base material as Tour M8, but adds softening agents, making it a great "starter poly" for players with lighter rackets or transitioning into the polyester universe. It's also ideal for poly veterans looking to reduce the load on tendons and joints. Although its profile is similar to that of Alpha and Tour Sniper , the feel is markedly different, offering a level of comfort not always seen in the polyester realm. All in all, this string features some of the best all-around performance we've seen from Grapplesnake, rivaling Tour M8 with its accessible and playable nature. Although it possesses slightly less snapback than the round version, Tour Mako Short Fin still snaps back effectively, and the grippy profile makes it extremely spin-friendly. Tour Mako Short Fin comes in a subtle cream color in a 1.25 mm option.

What players say
This limited-edition hexagonal version of Grapplesnake's Tour Mako has only one in-depth playtest available (Tennisnerd), which found strong spin and excellent tension retention but a stiff, disconnected feel on touch shots and volleys. No forum threads, customer ratings, or other independent reviews turned up for this exact variant.
Best for
- Spin-first baseline players
- Full-poly setups needing extra bite
- Heavy topspin hitters
- Players willing to string below 51 lbs
Pros
- Crisp snapback and strong spin off the ground
- Holds tension well, stayed very playable after 10 hours of hitting
- Controlled power with depth rather than uncontrolled pop
- Longer playability window than sharper-spin rivals like Tourna Big Hitter Black 7
Cons
- Firm, disconnected feel on touch shots and at the net
- Off-center hits feel harsh
- Less comfortable than softer polys
- Needs a committed swing; softer strokes don't unlock it
- Only one independent review found; no customer ratings on Tennis Warehouse

I immediately felt the crisp snap-back and spin from the baseline.

It felt a bit disconnected somehow on touch shots and I had a hard time directing balls consistently.

For players who value spin-first performance, consistency, and predictable control, Short Fin is definitely worth a try.
