Babolat Xcel 16/1.30 String Reel Natural - 660'
Line: Xcel
$309.00
This newer version of the Babolat XCel Premium string offers everything that the older string had as well as more durability. With a new construction phase that uses polymid binds instead of polyurethane, Babolat was able to increase the durability and tension maintenance of the string. Plays very soft and natural gut-like, this is one of the better multi-filament strings available.

What players say
Players and Tennis Warehouse's playtest team single out Xcel for its arm-friendly comfort and gut-like feel, with above-average control for a soft multifilament. The recurring complaints are faster tension loss and shorter durability than a firm polyester, so many players use it as a cross string with a poly main or restring it tighter and more often.
Best for
- Players with arm or shoulder sensitivity
- Players wanting a gut-like multifilament feel
- Hybrid cross string with a poly main
- Shorter swings seeking touch over spin
Pros
- Comfortable, arm-friendly feel reported widely, including by players with shoulder issues
- Soft, gut-like touch and good ball pocketing
- Above-average control for a multifilament, noted even by poly players
- Decent power without feeling unwieldy
Cons
- Loses tension quickly for some stringers, who recommend stringing tighter
- Durability trails a firm polyester; breakage reports vary widely
- Less spin bite than polyester strings
- Some reviewers find the feel mushy or lacking pop compared to crisper strings
