Weiss CANNON Scorpion 16L/1.28 String
Line: Ion
$9.95
An excellent co-polymer string with some extra sting . The Weiss Cannon Scorpion offers all the control of a regular polyester but with more pop. We found some nice ball pocketing with this one resulting in excellent spin, control, ball speed and a softer hit.

What players say
The only player feedback found for this exact 16L/1.28 gauge comes from customer reviews on its Tennis Warehouse product page, and it is split. One recent reviewer likes it as a cross string at low tension for its pop and smooth pearl-surface feel, while three earlier reviewers called it boardy, stiff in a hybrid, or simply unremarkable with average power retention.
Best for
- Cross string in a poly/poly hybrid
- Players who want a control-first poly
- Players willing to tune tension to find pop
Pros
- Predictable, control-oriented response when tension is dialed in
- One long-time user likes it specifically as a cross string, citing a smooth, slippery pearl surface and clean pop
Cons
- Several reviewers found it boardy or dead compared with Weiss Cannon's thinner Scorpion gauges
- Felt stiff and hard to generate power or spin from in a hybrid with a multifilament cross
- One reviewer called it medium-powered with below-average tension/position stability versus other polys
- No reviews address comfort directly, so arm-friendliness is unconfirmed

Surprisingly boardy and missing the spring that their other thinner strings have

I ended up cutting the string.

As polys go, this one is medium powered and seems to stay in place a little less well than other strings of its type.
